Let's Talk About Wax, Baby!

Let’s be clear — Brazilian waxing is not just a beauty trend, it’s a commitment to self-care, hygiene, and confidence. And when done right (with proper home care and a skilled hand), it gets easier, smoother, and yes — less painful over time.
I bet you’ve heard some, if not all the myths about Brazilian waxing. Allow me to take a moment to break a few of them down.
Myth #1: “Waxing is unbearably painful.”
Truth: Is it painless? No. But unbearable? Definitely not — especially when it’s done right.
The first time will sting a bit, but with the right technique (and regular upkeep), it gets easier and faster every time. Plus, soft life skincare queens don’t fear a little sting for long-term smoothness.
Myth #2: “You have to be completely bare.”
Truth: You can choose what you want removed.
It’s your body, your wax. Whether you want everything (including the back side) off or leave a little behind, your esthetician should work with your preferences. (And I always do.)
Myth #3: “My esthetician will judge me.”
Truth: Girl, please. You’re showing up for yourself — and that’s powerful.
You are not too hairy, too shy, too anything. I create a safe, respectful space where you can relax and trust that you're in good hands — no judgment, ever.
Myth #4: “It makes hair grow back thicker.”
Truth: Nope — just the opposite.
Consistent waxing weakens the hair follicle over time, so hair grows back finer, softer, and sometimes in smaller amounts.
Myth #5: “Once you wax, you don’t need to do anything else.”
Truth: Home care is everything.
Exfoliating, moisturizing, and using the right post-wax products helps prevent ingrowns, irritation, and bumpy texture. A good wax starts in the studio — but it’s maintained at home.
Myth #6: “It takes 4-6 weeks for hair to grow back.”
Truth: Scheduling your appointments 4-6 weeks apart doesn’t mean hair doesn’t start growing back sooner than that.
You can start to see hair regrowth in as little as 2 weeks. The 4-6 week mark is the time for your wax because the hair has grown out enough by then. Wanna know something else? If you’re a picker, and you pluck hairs in between your appointment or shave a couple weeks after, you’re ruining the growth cycle.
Now, I’m gonna keep it all the way 100 with you; I’ve had my own not-so-great experiences when it comes to waxing clients. There are do’s and don’ts to Brazilian waxing, and not one, but TWO women who booked me leaned way too heavy on the don’ts and made the whole process feel very unpleasant. Those moments made me cautious about who I offered waxing services to, limiting it to friends or referrals only.
But here’s the thing — just like I’m encouraging you to give waxing another shot, I’ve decided to open up my Brazilian wax appointments to all clients. Because you deserve to experience it the right way — with care, professionalism, and someone who respects your body and your boundaries.
So if you’re ready to give up the razors and the Nair, want smooth skin without the trauma, and love your skincare with a side of realness — I got you all the way from the pre-wax prep to the aftercare that actually prevents ingrowns and irritation.
BUT….before you book, let’s get into the DO’s and DON’Ts of Brazilian waxing.
DO’s
Do exfoliate gently 24–48 hours before your appointment. This helps remove dead skin and allows hair to lift more easily during waxing.
Do let your hair grow to about ¼ inch (grain of rice length).Too short? The wax can’t grip. Too long? It may be more painful. Let it grow, then let it go.
Do wear loose, comfy clothes to your appointment. You’ll thank yourself after — your skin may feel a little tender.
Do communicate with your esthetician.Speak up if something feels off, or if it’s your first time — I got you!
Do follow aftercare instructions.Use gentle cleansers, skip fragrance, and apply ingrown-preventing serum or oil to keep things smooth between visits. And most importantly, and I cannot stress this enough…EXFOLIATE!
Do book consistently.Regular waxing helps weaken the hair follicle, reduces regrowth, and makes each session less painful. Consistency is the real glow-up.
Do arrive at your appointment fresh and sweat free. This is about courtesy more than anything. If you just left the gym, or have been out all day on a hot summer day, or for whatever reason aren’t as “fresh” as usual, please take a moment to freshen up. You can always ask me for feminine wipes prior to getting on the table!
DON’Ts
Don’t come in right after shaving.Waxing can’t grab the hair if it’s too short — you’ll be wasting your money and time.
Don’t tan, exfoliate aggressively, or use retinols/acids before your appointment. These things make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation or lifting.
Don’t schedule a wax during your period. You can get waxed during your cycle, but many women feel more discomfort. I like to encourage my clients to book before or after your cycle.
Don’t work out or have intimate contact for 24 hours after.Your skin needs time to calm down — friction and sweat can irritate it.
Don’t have intercourse 24 hours before your appointment.
Engaging in intercourse right before a Brazilian wax can make the area more sensitive, swollen, and reactive — which can increase discomfort during the wax and make the skin more prone to irritation or lifting.
Don’t touch or scratch the area post-wax.Even if it feels a little itchy while healing, hands off! Introduced bacteria = no thank you.
Know someone who’s nervous about their first Brazilian? Send them this post—or better yet, book your appointments together and make it a glow-up day!
